Why Things Don’t Change

Ever wondered why things just don’t change even though you’re doing everything that you think you should be doing?

I believe that each of us are doing the very best we can, given our own unique set of circumstances.  And it certainly is true that often, we watch others making significant progress, and it really doesn’t look like they’re doing anything different than us.

I know that many people even go to the extreme of asking their friends what it is that they’re doing to make their lives change so drastically, when in reality, no two of us have the same set of circumstances to deal with, and so what they may be doing may not work for us, no matter how good we get at doing it!

Each of us has most likely had different parents, and our parents may have had a different set of values and we haven’t discovered that we are living by their values instead of our own; or maybe we went to different schools, or even grew up in a different city.  There are just so many things that contribute to how we adapt to the changing times around us, but one thing we can all be sure of…each of us are capable of achieving whatever our hearts desire.

There are certain things that we can do or avoid to assist us to reach the level of comfort and success that we desire, and if we could take an honest look at what those around us have done, it is true we might discover these very same things.

People that rise above their current conditions:

  • Don’t give up what they want most for what they want in the moment.
  • Don’t spend more money than they make, and they put something aside from everything that comes in.
  • Don’t look for the easy way, but take the path that is certain and they stick to it.
  • Don’t blame others or conditions for their misfortunes, but take control of their own situation with great discipline.
  • Give thanks for what they currently have.
  • Always share with others who may be in need.
  • Have a life of self-motivation and a genuine interest to learn something new every day.
  • Understand the concept of goal setting and adhering to the goal.

Each and every one of us possesses all these qualities and we are born to achieve through this very method.  Yet what I have discovered is that society as a whole isn’t practicing this, and the marketing of the world around us is developed to cripple this very process.

Each and every new product that comes out proclaims greater freedom, sexier appearance, healthier body, more profitable returns, or reliability for a guaranteed term.  Yet, don’t we have all of that already and find we are not satisfied or living the life we desire?

So set some goals for yourself, and build a dedicated practice to reach those goals.  There are numerous sites on the Web that can be found by doing a simple search for how to set goals for yourself and your family.  Practice saving a little out of every check or payment received, even if it means not going to Starbucks once a week and putting that money in a piggy bank until you can find other areas to reduce your spending.  “Every little bit counts.”

The easy path leads to a dead end, and typically there are no more forks in the road.  How you know you are on the right path is that “Success always leaves clues.”  If you don’t see them, you are not on the right path.

Remember, that you and you alone, made and accepted all the choices you have made for yourself, and you and you alone must make any corrections to get back on course to where you desire to be.  Don’t blame anyone, even if they gave you advice (and many people do without us even asking for it!).  Do your own research and turn your attention inward and listen to what your Inner Wisdom tells you.  “Divine right action always feels right!”  You know when it feels right…if you are expecting immediate results…just remember…you didn’t get into the situation you are in overnight and you probably won’t get out of it overnight!

No matter what your current experience is, give thanks!  I am sure that you can find someone less fortunate than you (and you won’t have too look far!).  When we give thanks for what we have, our lives change.  “Gratitude is the anointing of increase.”  “To a grateful heart much is given.”  Look around your home, apartment or shopping cart (if you are pushing one) and see what you can give away.  Sharing eases everyone’s burdens.  When we begin to understand and care about others so that we “give them our coat too” we initiate the Law of Circulation, and that which we seek to experience in our own life moves even closer to us.

Even if you don’t see how you could possibly achieve what you desire, begin to learn something about it so that your mind opens up to a greater understanding.  When this happens, the possibilities within ourselves change, and we begin to see how things could be possible.  The more we learn the more apt we are at recognizing how to discipline ourselves so that our lives match our desires.

Stay motivated to achieve the goals.  This is quite possibly the most difficult task of all.  I can only speak for myself, but when I want something, and I think I am doing all these things above…I expect to have it NOW!  One of the things that I have learned through the many interesting turns I have had in my life is that the discipline must continue long after reaching a goal.  The real encouragement is not in achieving that which we are seeking, the real excitement is in being able to continue to practice after that which I desire is already mine.

I want to continue to experience the reward of setting goals and reaching them…

How about you?

Ask yourself:

What step am I willing to take today?

Now take that step!

One step at a time, one day at a time.  The experience you seek is closer than you’ve been telling yourself!

  2. Why is it that I get exactly what I need WHEN I need it coming to your site?! Just as I was feeling what bodybuilders refer to as a plateau earlier today, I just happened to fall onto this page, “Why Things Don’t Change.” To be totally honest, nothing that I didn’t already know, but nevertheless needed to be reminded of. Thanks again!

    • You get what you need because the Universe couldn’t operate any other way. It would be sheer calamity for everyone if each of us didn’t receive all that we do each day!
      You moved closer. Yay!
